ANASAZI, EMBRACE AND CORNGRIDER – 2017
Allan House (1914-1994) was an influental and respected Chiricahua Apache artist and one of our nation’s premier sculptors.
Proficient in a variety of media, from delicate egg tempera paintings to monumental sculptures of bronze, stone and steel, Houser is credited with reviving the art of stone sculpture in the United States. His work is internationally acclaimed and is included in the collection of three Smithsonian Institutions, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the White House, and the British Royal Collection.
Allan Houser, Inc has graciously loaned the bronzes: Anasazi, Embrace and Corngrinder to be installed in significant locations throughout the Railyard Park. Artist Tony Lee will also be installing his sculpture, Elemental. Tony Lee was the assistant Sculptor to Allan Houser, and the installation manager from 1989 until Mr. Houser’s death in 1994. The unveiling of these works on August 17, 2017 lines up with We Are the Seeds, an event that celebrates indigenous art and culture.
