The Railyard Park and Plaza’s design responds to the history and climate of Santa Fe by using a combination of native plants, historic food plants and well-adapted ornamental plants. Our volunteer gardeners are the human toolkit that keeps our park green and growing.
As a volunteer, you can be part of a variety of ongoing hands-on, site-based projects, including:
- Community food gardens
- Native grass prairies and grasslands
- An heirloom apple and apricot orchard
- Care of the historic Acequia Madre and the new Acequia Niña
- A bird and butterfly garden
- Ornamental flower gardens
- Youth work projects with neighborhood schools , museums, and nonprofit social and civic programs
- And much more
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Your individual skills and experience are just what the Railyard Stewards need. Here are just a few ways that you can help:
- Provide volunteer leadership for existing and new projects
- Provide physical help in the park and plaza, at all levels of ability, and at times that suit your schedule
- Join in green-collar and other educational training programs as leaders or learners
- Raise money by organizing fundraising projects
- Lend a hand in grant writing or office work
HOW TO GET STARTED
Volunteer: Schedule time to assist in a park garden workday, participate in a youth education project or provide assistance in our office or with our fundraising efforts.
Support the Railyard Stewards: Help ensure that the Railyard Park and Plaza remains beautiful and provides quality community programming for all ages. Send your contribution to: The Railyard Stewards c/o The Trust for Public Land, 1600 Lena Street, Building C, Santa Fe, NM 87505. Make checks payable to The Trust for Public Land, and write Railyard Stewards on your check.
