He has over 85 different types of cacti in his extensive home cactus gardens and has helped start many community cactus gardens.  He is a member of both the Colorado and New Mexico Cactus and Succulent Societies and started The Cactus Rescue Project, an effort to save the endangered Santa Fe Cholla.  When not working with cactus he is a licensed massage therapist.
